Your Money

Exchange offices

Can be found in most hotels and all around the city centre of Prague and on the airport. They exchange all common currencies

Tipping

Czech staff in restaurants and bars get paid for their work so tipping is not obligatory but still expected. As general guideline 5 to 10% can be used.

Currency

The currency in the Czech Republic is the Czech Crown. You can find the Czech Crown displayed like Kc or CZK.

Banks and Money Exchange

Also banks can be found in the Prague city centre. Known banks in the Czech Republic are:
  • CSOB
  • Ceska Sporitelna
  • Komercni Banka
  • Bank of Austria

It is recommended to go to one of the big banks, which generally have the best exchange rates, as well as the lowest commission (ca 2%). Several money withdraw machines can be found (both VISA and MASTER CARD), mostly in the centre of Prague. DO NOT exchange money on the black market. It is against the law and you run a big risk ending up with worthless bank notes. The lowest bank note is 20 Kc and the highest is 5.000 Kc.

Students can obtain discounts at museums when showing their student card. ISIC cards are also welcome. Shopping hours

In the city centre of Prague shops and department stores are generally open from 9 AM till 8 PM every day of the week.
